Region 8 revives traditional comparza
Tacloban City (June 25) -- For the first time, an Inter-School Comparza Competition will be held at the RTR Plaza on June 25, 2007, at exactly 8:00 o'clock in the evening.
The first Inter-School Comparza Competition is part of the activities being held in connection with the Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival, one way of paying tribute and homage to Senor Santo Nino, the Patron of Tacloban City and the Province of Leyte.
Dr. Evelyn Cruzada, the President of the Leyte Normal University, said that the Inter-School Comparza Competition is part of the campaign to raise consciousness, institutionalize and focus attention to cultural activities which are truly Leyte.
It is endeavored that the Inter-School Comparza Competition will lead the way towards the revival and popularization of the traditional comparza, which is very much part of Leyte 's cultural heritage.
Although, there was short notice considering the summer vacation, several schools answered the invitation to join the Comparza Competition, Dr. Cruzada is gratefully intimated.
The University President is calling on the educators and the students to watch the comparza competition which will be held tonight. It is will not only be a source of entertainment, Dr. Cruzada said, it is a venue by which any Leyteno will learn the culture of the land.
No entrance fees will be collected, Dr. Cruzada said, so there is really no reason why people will not be able to take the opportunity to see for themselves what comparza is all about.
This year's comparza competition revolves around the theme "Taghoy Ng Kalikasan," a very timely subject considering the environmental concerns the whole world is facing nowadays. (PIA 8) [top]
