Comelec Ifugao gears for synchronized October elections

by Jina Shirley G. Dacmay

LAGAWE, Ifugao (1 September) -- The Commission on Elections(COMELEC) here is now finalizing list of registered voters in preparation for the synchronized Sangguniang Kabataan(SK) and Barangay elections on October 29, 2007.

Meleken Tayaban, Comelec Assistant Election Officer disclosed that while only four municipalities have yet submitted their final list of requirements to their office for the finalization of reports to be submitted to COMELEC Manila, deadline for the municipalities was set on August 28.

She added that said pursuant to COMELEC Resolution No. 8257 promulgated on July 24, 2007, Election Registration Boards per Municipality composed of the Local Civil Registrar, District Supervisor and Municipal Election Officer, convened last August 13, 14, and 15 to hear the approval /disapproval of all applications including transfer of registration and correction of entry/entries in registration records of applicants who filed their applications for the synchronized barangay and SK polls on Oct. 29.

Department of Education Ifugao Division Assistant Superintendent Felipe Ballitoc said they are still awaiting orders from head office designating teachers to once again serve as Barangay Election Tellers (BETs).

Resolution No. 8285 approved en banc by COMELEC headed by chairman Benjamin Abalos, Sr. designated provincial and city superintendents as among its deputies for the coming elections.

List of the names of teachers who will serve as BEIs will soon be submitted for as long as we are given the go signal, Ballitoc said.

"We are always willing to do our jobs" he said. But he lamented that until now, most of the election supervisors who served during the May 14 elections have not received yet their pay for the services.

He clarified though that instructions were given them by DepEd Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Franklin Dizon to submit names of those who did not receive their pay so they could act on it. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
