PIA Press Release

Leyte invigorates local tourism thru low-cost tour packages

Tacloban City (September 1) -- In answer to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's initiative to make Central Philippines as the Tourism Center of the country and in order to entice local tourists to explore and discover the sights in the province, the Leyte Tourism and Investment Promotions Center recently launched the Turismo Ha Leyte.

Ms. Nhel Baguna who heads the Leyte Tourism and Investment Promotions Center informed that the Turismo Ha Leyte program provides tour packages at very affordable cost.

This, she said, would stimulate and allow more local tourists to travel in Leyte and increase their awareness on the province's tourist attractions.

By offering low-cost package tours, the province of Leyte is providing local tourists and province folks to marvel at the province's historical landmarks, heritage sites, museums, architectural marvels and other tourist destinations which otherwise remains just a plan for local folks as tour packages offered by private operators do not fall within their budget.

Initially, the Leyte Tourism and Investment Promotions Center has started offering the City Environs Tour within Metro Tacloban area, with the short tour package costing only P100 per person. Longer tour packages would cost only P150- P200. per person.

The City Environs Tour for Tacloban features visit to areas such as the Capitol, the Crucified Christ and Madonna of Japan along Magsaysay Boulevard, the Sto. Niņo Shrine, the Pryce Mansion and the MacArthur Park in Palo, Leyte.

On the other hand, the long tour package includes sightseeing expedition to areas such as the San Juanico Bridge, the Mariculture Park along the San Juanico Strait and the Rafael Farms in Babatngon, Leyte.

Those who are interested to avail of these tour packages may visit the Leyte Tourism and Investment Promotions Center at the SMED Center, Capitol Grounds, Tacloban City. The LTIPC staff will be there to assist the local tourists on what destination in Leyte to visit. (PIA 8) [top]
