Search for most business-friendly LGU on

Cagayan de Oro City (1 September) -- The Department Interior and Local Government (DILG) enjoins all local government chief executives to support this year's search for the "Most Business-Friendly LGU Award".

The search is a project of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) and other key national business organizations in the country and the DILG is a member of the awards selection committee.

Said award is accorded to all provinces, cities and municipalities in recognition of their efforts in instituting good governance in promoting trade and investment with its innovative, sound, business licensing procedures, accountable, transparent and efficient conduct of daily operations and promotion of competitiveness to improve the quality of life of their constituents and encourage entrepreneurship in their areas.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno said the DILG has always been in the forefront of promoting excellence in governance to help the Arroyo administration build a legacy of communities that are not only peaceful and safe but vibrant and prosperous.

Criteria for the award in the following categories are as follows:

For provinces: trade, investment and tourism promotion 45%; public-private sector partnership 20%; inter-local government relations 20%; and relation with partner institutions 15%.

For cities/municipalities: good governance 55%; competitiveness 30%; and inter-local government relations 15%.

Deadline for submission of entries is on or before September 15, 2007. The awarding ceremony will be held between October 24 and 26, this year at the Manila Hotel during the culmination of the 33rd Philippine Business Conference with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as the guest of honor.
