Region 8 spends P169-M for KALAHI-CIDSS:KKB projects

Tacloban City (September 2) -- The KALAHI-CIDSS KKB or Kapit Bisig Laban Sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services Kaunlaran at Kapangyarihan sa Barangay, the flagship poverty alleviation project of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, has been implemented and funded projects amounting to more than P169 million, in Eastern Visayas.

The Kalahi CIDSS is a community-based poverty reduction project building on the strengths of the CIDDS (a proven poverty alleviation program that facilitated meeting of unmet needs of needy communities through community structures) of DSWD.

The components of the project are social preparation, capcity building and implementation support, seed fund for community development projects and monitoring and evaluation studies.

The project has been implemented in the provinces of Eastern Samar, Samar, Northern Samar, Biliran and Leyte.

There are ten types of projects being implemented. These are water supply, bridges, roads, drainage, daycare center, electrification, flood control, agriculture, health station and school building.

Of the ten projects, water supply received the highest funding amounting to P52,197,478.00. The water supply projects are distributed to Eastern Samar with 48 water supply projects completed and 2 are still ongoing; Samar with 7 completed, 33 ongoing and 11, the funding of which will still be released; 1 in Northern Samar; 4 in Biliran and in Leyte, 4 have been completed while 2 are still ongoing.

Ten bridges projects have been completed in Region 8 while 3 are ongoing and 1 in Samar is yet to be funded. Of the ten, 6 are in East Samar, 3 in Samar and 1 in Leyte. Another 3 are still ongoing in Samar province.

Thirty-seven road projects have been completed and 1 is ongoing in Eastern Samar. In Samar 3 road projects have been completed and 2 are ongoing; while in Northern Samar, there is one ongoing road project. Leyte has 4 completed and 2 ongoing road projects.

In Eastern Samar, 17 drainage projects have been completed while 5 are still ongoing. In Samar, there are 2 ongoing drainage projects.

Again in Eastern Samar, 17 day care centers have been completed while 5 are still ongoing; and in Samar, there are 2 ongoing daycare center projects.

For the electrification projects, Eastern Samar has 12 while Samar has 2 completed and another 3 is ongoing in Eastern Samar.

On flood control, Eastern Samar has completed 12 while Samar has completed 2; and Eastern Samar has another 3 ongoing projects.

On Agriculture, there are 12 completed projects in Eastern Samar, 3 in Samar, 1 in Biliran and 1 in Leyte. There are 3 ongoing projects in Eastern Samar, 1 in Samar and 1 in Leyte. For release are: 1 in Eastern Samar and 4 in Samar.

Of the 8 completed health station projects, 5 are in Eastern Samar, 1 in Samar and 2 in Biliran. There is I ongoing project in Samar.

Finally, of the 5 completed school building projects, 3 are in Eastern Samar, 1 in Samar and another 1 in Leyte. There are 5 ongoing projects, 1 in Eastern Samar, 2 in Samar and 2 in Leyte. (PIA 8) [top]
