PIA Press Release

DOT 8 moves to new location

Tacloban City (September 2) -- Those who have some business to do with the Department of Tourism Regional Office 8 are advised not to go to the Leyte Park Hotel Compound where the office is located.

Director Karina Rosa Tiopes informed PIA that the DOT 8 office has moved into a new business location effective September 1, 2007.

Director Tiopes said that the new office will be more spacious to accommodate the clientele with comfort. Besides, it is more accessible because it is right there at the heart of the City proper.

The new DOT Office is located at 141 Sto. Nino Street, Tacloban City, Director Tiopes informed. Aside from being more spacious and accessible, the new location also fits within the budget of the agency.

Tourism is considered as the flagship thrust of the Region considering that Eastern Visayas belongs to the Central Philippines which is being eyed as the Center of Tourism in the Philippines per President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's super region strategy of development.

For many years, the Department of Tourism Region 8 Office was located at the Old Children's Park along Senator Enage Street. Later, it transferred to the Leyte Park Hotel Compound before it moved to the newest location at Sto. Nino Street.

The Regional Office of DOT is now in the middle of programs and projects aimed at aligning the Region to the tourism developments of Central Philippines. Lately, DOT 8 together with Bicol Region and Caraga, undertook a three-region tourism Caravan in order to highlight the Roro Nautical Highways which paved the way for easier connectivity among the Regions.
