PIA Press Release

Region 8 procurement service depot hits 165% sales growth at P36.7M

Tacloban City (September 3) -- As a August 31, the Procurement Service Depot in Region 8 has already reached P36.7 Million, about 165% higher than that of the same period last year.

This was announced through Ms. Juvy Lobedica, the PIO designate, by Department of Budget and Management Imelda Laceras who said that this is already 43% higher than last year's total annual sales of P25.6 Million.

Director Laceras added that the P36.7 Million sales up to August represents 99% of the sales target for 2007 which is P37 M. With the monthly sales trend and marketing efforts, Director Laceras is confident that the sales target will be met by mid-September. This means that the Procurement Depot is less than four months ahead of deadline in meeting its quota.

The performance of the Procurement Service Depot is remarkable considering that it is barely two years in operation having opened only in October of 2005.

Director Laceras attributed the huge increase in sales to four factors like the extensive information drive and advocacy on the Government Procurement Reform Act through trainings and briefings during interagency meetings and through press releases.

The other factors are the continued patronage of the clients, the hiring of new employees to augment its manpower complement and the coordination with the Commission on Audit to ensure enforcement and compliance.

Director Laceras, as the Chairperson of the Regional Composite Team of Trainers on the new procurement law, expressed satisfaction on the fruits of the team's efforts in training the procurement practitioners as manifested among others, on the increasing number of clients purchasing from the depot.

Under the new law, procurement from the Procurement Service Depot is one of the alternative methods of procurement under Section 53 e of its Implementing Rules and Regulations-A which is more economical, beneficial, efficient and effective way of procurement of commonly used office supplies.
