DILG, PIDS urge observance of development policy research month
Quezon City (4 September) -- In line with the celebration of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) this September, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in cooperation with the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), an attached agency of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), explained yesterday in a press conference the significance of research in policy formulation, planning and decision-making in both national and local governments.
The celebration of DPRM in the month of September and every year thereafter is in accordance with Presidential Proclamation No. 247 dated September 2, 2002 signed by President Arroyo.
As this developed, DILG Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno issued a Memorandum Circular to all provincial governors and city and municipal mayors to attend and participate in the scheduled activities for the DPRM such as the Research Fair 2007 and the Fora on Local Government Budgeting, Community-Based Monitoring System and Framework for Regional and Local Development on Sept. 24-26, 2007 at the NEDA sa Makati Building.
As the DILG is a member of the DPRM National Steering Committee, Puno said this year's celebration is very relevant to local governance and development since the theme for this year is "Enhancing Grassroots Development: A Framework for Local Governance." (PIA) [top]
