NPA rebel killed in clash with gov't soldiers in Cagayan
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (September 4) -- Philippine army soldiers here have killed a New People's Army rebel Saturday in a series of encounters with government troops, according to Major General Melchor Dilodilo. New commanding general of the army's 5th Infantry Division based in Camp Melchor dela Cruz in Gamu, Isabela.
Dilodilo said soldiers who were sent to a remote village in Sto. Nino, Cagayan chanced upon a group of NPA rebels and engaged them into a firefight.
He said the soldiers who also recovered two M16 assault rifles, a rifle grenade, a 12-gauge shotgun, an 81 mm mortar shell, ammunitions and other war paraphernalias were conducting clearing operations in the area following a red alert status among all army detachments amid possible attack by the communist rebels after Jose Maria Sison, founding chair of the Communist Party of the Philippines(CPP) who is on exile in the Netherlands was arrested in his house by the Dutch police last week.
