PIA Press Release

NVizcaya is prepared vs. NPA - PNP

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (September 4) -- The province is at its highest level of preparedness in terms of thwarting possible attacks from the New People's Army(NPA), according to Police Senior Supt. Segundo A. Duran, police provincial director.

Duran, reacting on he possible attacks of NPA rebels in vital installations and police stations in the province after the arrest of Jose Maria Sison, founding chair of the Communist Party of the Philippines(CPP) by the Dutch police in The Netherlands last week said recent atrocities made by the communist rebels in the 80s have left a negative effect on the lives of Novo Vizcayanos in general.

Duran who also served as the commanding officer of the defunct Philippine Constabulary based in Aritao town during the height of communist insurgency said the constituents of the province has learned the value of peace which is being sustained as a weapon to achieve economic development.

"I believe Novo Vizcayanos also reject communism since it backslided their development in the past. With this, they became vigilant and supportive to the anti-insurgency programs of the government," he told PIA.

Duran said insurgency is not only a responsibility of the police and military but also by the local government officials concerned.

He said that with the vigilance of barangay residents and local officials, any attempt by the communist rebels to sow terror, recruit, mobilize and campaign will be immediately responded to by concerned task forces in various barangays in coordination with the military.

According to Duran, recent sightings of the NPA rebels were reported from the mountains in the towns of Kasibu and Dupax del Norte and Dupax del Sur who came from Quirino province and immediately left the province.

"We only have here their legal fronts. The barangay officials in a recent conference also promised to reject insurgency in their areas and report the same to the authorities concerned," Duran said.

He said alertness of the police force is a basic principle of every policeman whether there are threats on communist attacks or none. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
