Pampanga SMED garners awards
San Fernando, Pampanga (4 September) -- When the Small and Medium Enterprise Development (SMED) Week was celebrated in July this year, the Pampanga SMED team garnered awards given by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Council (SMEDC).
The Pampanga Provincial Brand Development Team received the Best Practice Award: Access to Market Category for Implementing of the "Branding Program for Pampanga".
The Pampanga Brand Development Team composed of the Provincial Government, represented by the Provincial Cooperative Entrepreneurial and Development Office (PCEDO), and the Pampanga provincial offices of the DTI and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), introduced the provincial brand Vida Pampanga! Sharing the Best, September last year.
Team members said the brand was developed to serve as Pampanga's official seal of quality and excellence and was launched during the Likha ng Central Luzon (LCL) Trade Fair last October at SM Megamall.
The brand, according to the team, was also showcased during the 21st Philippine American Exposition, Home Show and Auto Show in Los Angeles, California and the DeCA and Food Business Mission to the United States last year.
Another award for the province was the Best Practice for Business and Environment Enabling Environment Category for its project "Streamlining the Business Process in the Issuance of Mayor's Permit".
The DTI-Pampanga Office and the Pampanga Investment Promotion Office (PIPO) have significantly contributed in the successful implementation of this project.
According to the DTI, its Pampanga SMED team reached 100% implementation of the project in its two cities and 20 municipalities in 2006. The project aims to foster an investor-friendly environment and to bring customer satisfaction and improved revenue collection.
The province garnered most of the major awards during the awarding of Central Luzon's Best LGU Practitioners of the Streamlining Program on the Issuance of Mayor's Permit held in February this year.
The Pampanga SMED Team says it is now gearing towards the next level which is electronic Business Permits and Licensing System (eBPLS) and the expansion of the coverage of the provincial branding project which initially started with the sweets and delicacies sector.
