Davao City (4 September) -- Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Nanning city, China mayor Chen Xiangqun signed the cities friendship pact yesterday at the Marco Polo Hotel, this city.
Though still on its initial steps to start negotiations between the two countries, Duterte scheduled October 20 of this year to be the fixed date wherein he'll be visiting Nanning along with his team to start the talks for possible investments.
As of the moment, both cities are still on the stage of establishing goodwill and confidence on each other. If established, then they would start talking about business.
"Both countries are eyeing on tourism, culture, trade, and education as the prospects of interests," Duterte said.
He stressed that Davao and Nanning are interested on all kinds of commercial relations that would include the mining industry.
"This early, we can't cite the specific products that both countries are to invest on. But what is important is the fact that China is awashed with money. It can buy just about anything from us. And that we need to take advantage of."
Duterte also bared that the things that the Chinese government is looking for is the transparency in doing business.
"We need to have fixed policies in doing business and give them the assurance of a return of their investment. This has also been the program aimed for by President Arroyo by eradicating graft and corruption, promoting transparency, to bring in more investors in the country," he said. (PIA XI) [top]
