SSS Samar celebrates 50th anniversary through Pensioners' Day

Catbalogan City (4 September) -- To celebrate their Golden anniversary, SSS Catbalogan Branch will sponsor a Pensioners' Day on September 21 with a free medical check-up and medicines for the beneficiaries at their Branch Office, San Bartolome Street, Catbalogan City.
In an interview with Branch Head Benjamin Pombo, he said that earlier, in Cebu City, they have gathered some 40 SSS pensioners in a "Grand Alumni Homecoming for SSS employee-pensioners" in Central Visayas. The pensioners were treated to a day of fun and reminiscence of their active days as SSS employees.
In August 10 in Borongan, Eastern Samar, SSS also treated the Estehanons to a Pensioners' Day at Tooms Restaurant. They were also given free medicines and medical check up. This form a part of the celebration, added Pombo.
Meanwhile, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has sought the extension of loan condonation to SSS members.
In her message to the SSS 5oth anniversary on September 3, 2007 at the SSS, East Avenue, Quezon City, PGMA strongly pushed for the inclusion of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the roster of its more than 27 million members.
The President added that as part of the social payback of government reform programs, she said that the condonation of penalties and restructuring of housing loans has already benefited more than 6,000 members.
SSS has also increased the members' pension twice in the last 12 months, -10% in September last year and another 10% in August this year.
SSS has also provided a P 1B special window for micro, small and medium enterprises MSMEs) which PGMA said is the biggest job generator in the country.
PGMA also recognized and congratulated SSS President Corazon dela Paz for being the first Asian woman to head the International Social Security Association (ISSA). (PIA) [top]
