Gov't agencies cite importance of research

Roxas City (5 September) -- Research is vital in policy formulation, planning and decision-making in both local and national governments.
This was explained by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in cooperation with the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) in a press conference in line with the celebration of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) this September.
PIDS is an attached agency of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
The celebration is embodied in President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Presidential Proclamation No. 247 which declares the month of September and every year thereafter as DPRM issued on September 2, 2002.
DILG Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno has issued a Memorandum Circular to all provincial governors and city and municipal mayors to attend and participate in the DPRM scheduled activities.
The activities include the Research Fair 2007 and the Fora on Local Government Budgeting, Community-Based Monitoring System and Framework for Regional and Local Development on Sept. 24-26, 2007 at the NEDA sa Makati Building.
Puno said this year's celebration is very relevant to local governance and development since the theme for this year is "Enhancing Grassroots Development: A Framework for Local Governance."
The DILG is a member of the DPRM National Steering Committee. (PIA) [top]
