Isabela Comelec ready for SK, barangay elections
ROXAS, Isabela (September 5) -- The election office in this western Isabela town is busy preparing for the upcoming SK and Barangay election set to be held this 29th of October this year.
Municipal Election Officer Edgar Cariaga said his office is already preparing for the holding of SK and Barangay Election which is set eight weeks from now.
"Though there are proposals from the Congress for the postponement of the election, we still ready our office because there are no final say yet from our COMELEC central office", the election officer from this town said.
In Congress, Makati City Congressman Teodoro Locsin is proposing that the SK and Barangay election should be conducted on May 2009, more than a year from now.
Cariaga said that the postponement is still a proposal from Congress and this upcoming political exercise is already set and has been allocated funds by the government for the purpose.
"However, if there will come an order from our office which postpones the election, then we will abide by that order", said Cariaga.
The election chief of this town said that residents of the town's 26 baranagys are eager that the SK and Barangay elections be pushed trough to let other interested future barangay leaders serve their constituents.
"More than five years is already enough for the barangay officials who were elected last May 2002 due to its postponement in May 2005", said Omar Turingan, a resident of this town's poblacion barangay of Bantug. (PIA-Isabela) [top]
