Multi-agency task force formed to monitor STD cases in NVizcaya town
SOLANO, Nueva Vizcaya (September 5) -- Local officials here said they have formed a task force designed to monitor and prevent the possible outbreak of sexually-transmitted diseases(STDs) in this premier commercial town where most of the province's beerhouses are located.
Councilor Regie Vaino-Valdez, chair of the health committee of the municipal board said they have made coordinations with the Department of Health officials in the province for a stricter implementation of ordinances pertaining to the operation of entertainment hubs in this town.
The formation of the task force was triggered by the death of a 16-year old due to complications arising from STD which also infected other Guest Relations Officers (GROs) in beerhouses here.
Dr. Antonio Parong, technical assistant of the Department of Health (DOH) said the girl died in July 23 following more than a week of confinement at the Veterans Regional Hospital in the Bayombong town.
The girl, Parong added reportedly worked as commercial sex worker in various beerhouses in this town before working as a freelance.
Local officials said they fear the possible spread of the disease since the girl had not undergone regular examination by health workers in town while it made contact with other customers on her own. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
