Tacloban conducts seminar on searches, seizures and arrests
Tacloban City (September 5) -- The City Government of Tacloban City through the City Legal Office headed by Atty. Sergio Sumayod is currently conducting a seminar on Seaches, Seizures and Arrests in its hope to reorient and refresh the participants on the proper serving of the same.
Mr. Dante Parano of the Kanhuraw Information and Media Relations Office said that the seminar is held at the KIMRO Conference Hall starting on September 3 and will be continued on September 5 and September 7. This schedule will ensure that the participants' responsibilities are affected.
The participants include the members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection, City Health Office, City Licensing Office and Barangay Chairmen of Tacloban.
Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez informed that he fully support the program because it will ensure the upholding of the rights of the citizens, and the rights of the policemen who are conducting a search in a specific household.
The Mayor also commended the City Legal Office for coming up with such seminar especially during these days when the City Government is conducting operations in various internet cafes, videoke clubs and other business establishments to implement the laws on child workers and illegal trades.
Executive Judge Salvador Apurillo of the Regional Trial Court Branch 8 discussed during the first day, the various measures in order to prevent further incidence of improper issuance of search warrant, execution and enforcement of Seizure and Post Search.
He underscored that the seminar is aimed at effective mitigation of problems being encountered by police authorities especially in the issuance of search warrant and seizure orders.
This will also ensure that the serving police authorities are protected from legal actions which may be resolved to by the concerned citizens.
Earlier, Mayor Romualdez assured the member of the Philippine National Police that he will support them in terms of enhancing their capabilities by communication equipments and transportation facilities and by providing them the needed legal aid in case legal actions are taken against them.
