'Icons of Bacolod' highlight Masskara Festival '07

Bacolod City (5 September) -- City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia said that the 28th Masskara Festival set on October 1-21 will focus on "Icons of Bacolod ".

As a prelude to the 70th anniversary celebrations set next year, the 2007 Masskara Festival kicks off the campaign to raise awareness and pride for things related to Bacolod City, Leonardia said.

"Icons of Bacolod" are symbols, institutions, products, landmarks and even personalities that have become synonymous to Bacolod like the piaya, the bandstand at the plaza and the San Sebastian Cathedral.

"We are excited at how our artists will interpret this motif through the Masskara song, street dance, kiosk decorations and the other activities," Leonardia said.

Last year, the festival focused on "Masks of the World".

Masskara 2007 is being organized by the Silver Masskara Festival Organization Inc. which has been overseeing the festival since 2004.

It will have two festival sites-the Bacolod public plaza and the areas between SM City and Manokan Country and the BAYS Center. (PIA) [top]
