New 303rd IB commander assures Negrenses
Negros Occidental (5 September) -- Incoming 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander Col. Honorato de los Reyes assured Negrenses that there is no reason to worry as the armed forces troops in the province are on the go and on the ground conducting counter-insurgency operations.
The assurance of de los Reyes was in reaction to some fears of possible retaliation of the Communist Party of the Philippines- New People's Army following the arrest of their founding chairman Jose Maria Sison by the Dutch government in the Netherlands.
"His (Sison's) curtailment will definitely slow down the activities of the CPP-NPA," de los Reyes told PIA in an interview. It will have a big impact on the movement since Sison's leadership is acknowledged by the movement, de los Reyes added.
Outgoing 303rd IB Commanding General Gregorio Fajardo previously announced that the CPP-NPA in the movement in the island is not planning any offensive attacks after the arrest of its leader Joma Sison. However, new intelligence information reached the AFP that a directive has been sent out to the underground movement as well as the alleged legal fronts of the CPP-NPA that they are to conduct offensive attacks in retaliation to Sison's arrest.
De los Reyes on the other hand said that the 303rd IB is ready for any possible attacks. In fact, the AFP is anticipating any eventuality as counter-insurgency is a continuous operation.
The new commander plans to sustain the thrust of the outgoing general and other majors in the field and will make the necessary adjustments as the need arises. Based on his observation prior to his installation as the new commander of the 303rd IB, de los Reyes said that the programs of Fajardo is performing well as manifested by its effective impact on the public.
