DILG Sec. Puno keynotes culmination program for national crime prevention week
Tacloban City (September 6) -- No less than Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno is expected to keynote Region 8's culmination program for the National Crime Prevention Week celebration on Friday, September 7, 2007 at the Kanhuraw Convention Center in Tacloban City.
DILG 8 Regional Director William Paler who is the chairperson of the coordinating committee, informed that per agreement during the final coordination meeting of all the participating agencies, the culmination program will be held at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon.
Aside from the coordinating agencies, the members of the Regional Peace and Order Council will join the members of the Tacloban City Peace and Order Council in this activity.
Highlight of the activity is the presentation of awards of recognition to various organizations which contributed towards the success of crime prevention programs.
The Region's observance of the National Crime Prevention Week started on August 30, with the PIA 8 sponsored Media Crime Prevention Forum with the representative of the PNP, DSWD and the business sector as the resource persons.
This was followed by the press conference at the Express it at the park and radio guestings on September 1 of the heads of the coordinating agencies.
Other activities are the advocacy motorcade and opening program, barangayan with the people of the barangays, and theForum on Crime Prevention with Students.
The observance of the first week of September as the National Crime Prevention Week was started in 1994 through Presidential proclamation No. 461.
Now, in its 13th year, the celebration's theme focuses on the global dimension of crime and the need to strengthen multi-sectoral cooperation in the fight against internal and domestic threats posed by terrorism, illicit drugs, firearms smuggling, human trafficking and all other forms of crimes that adversely affect national peace and development.
