Puno urges LGUs to involve public in crime prevention activities

Iloilo City (6 September) -- DILG Secretary Ronaldo V. Puno urged local government executives to come up with appropriate activities that will help encourage public's participation in the Crime Prevention Week observed every first week of September.
Secretary Puno in his Memorandum Circular said that the local government executives should be more pro-active in their crime prevention activities to draw public attention and put value on community participation in crime prevention.
In Iloilo, various activities have been programmed to observe the week-long activity.
The NAPOLCOM which spearheads the activity, along with the member-government agencies, invited USEC Ricardo Blancaflor to discuss the salient points of the Human Security Act or the Anti-terror Law.
Meanwhle, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo said that in 2008, the budget for public order and safety will be increased from this year's P64.9 billion to P73.3 billion.
President Arroyo during the recent Pulong Bayan, emphasized that the national allocation for public order and safety under the budget proposal submitted by Malacanang to Congress will be increased by more than P8 billion in order to beef up the capabilities of government law-enforcement agencies as guardians of peace, order and public safety.
