Dumaguete City (7 September) -- The Peace and Order Council of Valencia has been recognized as the best peace and order council in Region 7.
Valencia's peace and order council was earlier awarded as the best functional council in Negros Oriental by the provincial selection committee headed by Gov. Emilio Macias II.
The Department of Interior and Local Government has mandated that the winners in the regional level will represent the region in the search at the national level.
Awarding ceremony for the provincial level is set to be conducted next week while the regional awarding is scheduled at the end of the month.
Ruby Noblefranca, municipal local government operations officer, said the council was chosen based on its action taken on the issues affecting the municipality like as drug addiction, fire prevention campaign and other issues that concerns peace and order.
Among the notable issues taken were the imposition of curfew among minors, the passage of the anti-truancy law, and the organization of neighborhood crime watch in the barangays. (PIA) [top]
