Tacloban City (7 September) -- To coincide with the celebration of the Department of Agrarian Reform's (DAR) 36 years anniversary on September 10, said office in region 8 will hold the Second CARP Quiz Date on same day.

This was learned from DAR Information Officer Jose Alsmith L. Soria who further revealed that said competition which is open to all college students region-wide, will be conducted at the DAR Regional Office Training Center at 2:00 in the afternoon.

According to Soria, the competition, which is participated in by a total of 32 college students region-wide comes from 12 different schools.

The lucky winner in said contest will receiver a cash prize of P5,000.00 plus a plaque, and nine finalists will receive a consolation prize of P500.00 each.

It was further bared that the CARP Quiz Date aims to promote the subject of agrarian and land reform to the students and for them to appreciate these subjects. Likewise, it is also hoped that eventually these college students will be advocates of said program of the government.

On the other hand, Soria bared that by virtue of Republic Act No. 6389 otherwise known as the Code of Agrarian Reform of the Philippines, signed by then President Ferdinand E. Marcos on September 10, 1971 the Department of Agrarian Reform was created. (PIA-8) [top]
