Lagawe organizes census coordinating board

LAGAWE, Ifugao (8 September) -- Pusuant to Executive Order No. 121, otherwise known as the Reorganization Act of the Philippine Statistical System, the Municipal Government here organized the Municipal Census Coordinating Board (MCCB).

Mayor Ceasario Cabbigat here issued an executive order to organize the MCCB in line with Memo circular no. 2007-70 of the Department of Interior and Local Government citing the National Statistical Coordination Board Resolution No.7, series of 2007 which encourages the formation of Local Census Coordinating Boards.

The National Statistics Office is ordered to conduct the Census of Population dubbed as POPCEN 2007 to update the population count and some of its demographic and socio-economic characteristics useful in the formulation of national and local development plans and programs, the E.O. stated.

The E.O. also stated that the primary objective of POPCEN 2007 is to provide government planners and policy makers with up-to-date and comprehensive information as to the size, composition and distribution of the population at the barangay level.

The data to be obtained from the conduct of the census form part of the basis in the computation of the Internal Revenue Allotment of the local government units and for the creation of new and the conversion to a higher level of local government units.

The MCCB is composed of chairperson-Mayor Cabbigat; Co-chairperson-District Schools supervisor Teresita Tayaban, members, Sangguniang bayan chairperson on the committee on Barangay Affairs, Municipal Planning and Development Officer, Municipal chief of Police, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, Municpal Local government Operations Officer, Municipal Civil Registrar, Kataguwan Center Representative, and Philippine Information Agency representative.

The functions of the MCCB are to oversea the efficient conduct of POPCEN 2007,facilitate the training of enumerators, aid the Provincial Statistics Office in the systematic conduct of the census at the barangay levels, initiate requests and other measures as maybe necessary to the NSO for the timely dissemination of the census results to the participating local government un its and perform other functions as may necessary.
