LAGAWE, Ifugao (8 September) -- As part of the government's investments on human and physical infrastructure to sustain economic growth and in pursuit of national development objectives, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) here is awaiting P200 million for the State of the Nation Address project in the province.
Engr. Judith Wangiwang in an interview said that the province will be getting a share of P200M for the continuation of the Phase III of the Halsema Highway road improvement SONA project.
Phase III starts from Bontoc to Banaue covering an approximate length of 44.8 kilometers.
Wangiwang said the P200M will continue the concreting of the Bontoc Banaue Rd. starting from Sumigar Boundary to Banaue marker or KM 340 + 500 to KM 362. This spans a 22 kilometer stretch.
The amount of P30M was disbursed and implemented here which involves the concreting of the road spanning the Viewpoint to Awan-Igid section, Awan Igid to Sumigar Section and the Sumigar to Mt. Polis section, all in Banaue municipality.
Wangiwang disclosed that while the first two contracts are 70% near completion, the third is way behind at 30% completion. The late implementation of the third project is hampered by a lot owner's non-cooperation.
This, she said, is a recurrent problem of the department as lot owners often do not permit development where their lots are traversed. Nevertheles, DPWH hopes to implement the remaining contracts with less problems. (PIA Ifugao) [top]
