Army, CRG conduct symposium in Basilan
Isabela City, Basilan (10 September) -- The Civil Relations Unit-Basilan, 4th CRG, CRSAFP and the 3rd Special Forces Battalion, Special Forces Regiment (A), Special Operations Command, Philippine Army jointly conducted symposium at Claret High School of Maluso on 05 Sept 2007.
Around 400 participants composed of faculty members and students attended the SYMPOSIUM on Threats to National Security, Anti-Terrorism, Prohibited Drugs, and the Role of AFP in Basilan. The said symposium is the first seminar held in Maluso for this year.
Sister Alicia M Aycocho DC, principal of Claret High School of Maluso recognized the significance of the creation of public awareness. She also said that the symposium raises the level of vigilance and unity among the student-participants in the fight against threats to peace and progress not only within the perimeters, but even beyond the borders of the school.
"We believe that this symposium will make us better persons with better perspectives," the principal added.
Moreover, Maj Lorenzo A Masinsin, Acting Group Commander, 4th CRG, CRSAFP stressed that peace and order are not only the concern of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police. It is everybody's concern.
"Each one of you has a role to play and a responsibility to fulfill in the society. You don't need guns to do it. You only need awareness or knowledge. This time we seek knowledge on how to attain peace in the midst of ambiguity and chaos. This is what this symposium is designed to answer," Maj Masinsin said.
Maj Royland M Orquia PA, Commanding Officer, 3rd SFBn, advised the students to feel safe of the military presence because every soldier is a symbol of peace.
The speakers during the symposium were the following: P02 Sammy Said PN, who identified the threats to National Security; Pvt Ann Abrigo PA, who talked about the peaceful means in preventing terrorism to thrive in the school; Pvt Janna Hussin PA, who described the harmful effects of prohibited drugs in the human brain; and 1Lt Allan Y Vildosola PA, who enumerated the role of AFP in Basilan.
Also present during the symposium was Lt Richard Villaflor, Civil Military Operations Officer of 3rd SFBn. Posters, leaflets, stickers, were distributed to the audience. (4CRG/PIA-BASULTA) [top]
