PIA Press Release

Commentary: Hellooow...

By Bong Pedalino

Tacloban City (10 September) -- By now it should be clear what kind of character the much-touted "star witness" in the renewed Garci inquiry was like. No, he isn't exactly the kind of guy whose every word uttered can make wonders; he is the kind of guy who wanders everytime he speaks a word.

And yes, he will not stop at implicating anyone whose motives he can easily associate malice of whatever type with lots of help from a lawmaker who was just too willing to oblige even without asking -- just to forward his own agenda.

Senators Enrile, Gordon, and Arroyo were right. That man has lost his credibility. With apologies to these three Senators, though, he has no credibility to begin with.

Granting for the sake of argument that a lady intervened to prevent him from appearing in the Lower House two years ago, then what about it? The only sensible point here is that that woman was close to the corridors of power so by extension of the imagination that was it.

In the same breath, though, the woman was also a close ally of top Bishops. So whether she acted with instructions from the powers that are, the Church hierarchy, or all by her lonesome self is a subject worthy of Scotland Yard type of investigation, not an investigation in aid of legislation.

For what law could be passed out of all these? That it is illegal for a lady to talk to any intelligence officer?

The sooner we get out of this re-opening hullabaloo the better for the nation. At least two former Court of Appeals Justices initiated an action for the Supreme Court to put a stop to this one.

Soon, other sectors -- Business, Professionals, for example -- should follow until the Senators hear and listen.

As Senator Bong (my sangay) Revilla stated, the nation was just taken for a ride by this man.

We leave it to the top executives of Smart and Globe for whatever action they deem proper since the two private companies have been named and, consequently, implicated.

Whether they would just let it pass or hail the man to legal Courts is for them to decide.

The more important thing is for the country to move on.

LOCAL FRONT: Dr. Jerome Paler, CFC-GK provincial head for Southern Leyte told this writer that some 1,000 houses have been committed by Australia for Southern Leyte province alone. Particularly, this has come from an organization called Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP) Australia. With this piece of good news, Paler hoped that Mayors of the 18 towns and one city of the province will act soonest and secure the LGU counterpart, land and site development. Is there any Mayor out there reading? This is your chance to provide shelter to your homeless constituents. This will be on a first come, first serve basis, Paler said.

ODDLY YOURS: A farm in England owned by Mike Brendle managed some 36,000 chickens. Nothing unusual here until one day sometime in September 2006, when a foreman tending the chickens discovered that one out of 36,000 birds had four legs. The freak chick, named "Henrietta" by Mr. Brendle's 3-year old daughter, Ashley, has been living inconspicuously for 18 months in the Brendle farm when it was noticed. It has two normal front legs, and two more at the back. But the two at the back, while similar in size and shape with the front, did not function -- the chicken simply drags the extra feet. Mr. Brendle swore this was the first time it happened in over thirty years in business of tending chickens. (PIA 8) [top]
