Leyte officials hopeful of meeting LAMP 2 project targets

Tacloban City (September 10) -- Engr. Carlito Castanares, the Chief of the Operations Unit of Land Administration and Management Project in the province of Leyte briefed the members of the Local Steering Committee on the updates of Project Operations during its meeting held recently.

In his briefing, Engr. Castanares reported the status of operation of the different units of the project including the mobilization and strategies of the Social Development, an update on the patents generated in the Systematic Adjudication, the current progress in the base camp operations and the developments on the conduct of survey implementation.

On the progress in Social Development, Engr. Castanares reported the utilization of the Rapid Land Tenure Appraisal; the Adoption of a single community mobilization approach; mobilization of Community Development Assistant in areas covered by CENROs and the tapping of Barangay Development Council and Barangay Information Officer.

Other Social Developments are the capacity building of the LGUs; the development of procedure in accounting lots and monitoring of all lots developed; and the quality assurance tool developed in monitoring Social Development and Systematic Adjudication activities.

On Social Adjudication, Engr. Castanares reported the functional operations of two SATs in Carigara and Tanauan; the establishment of two new SATs in Tabon-Tabon and Tolosa in May and the commencement of operations in June of 2007; and the reduction to 8,000 of the total number of patents to have been delivered at the end of December 2007.

He said that the total number of patents approved, transmitted to PENRO and Register of Deeds as of June 30, 2007 is 2,857 which is 35.71 % accomplishment of the 2007 target.

On Base Camp Operations, Engr. Castanares reported that the community participation in Systematic Adjudication is at 80%. The factors supporting productivity include strong field level management like clear output expectation of 3 patents per adjudicator, team work between base camp and management lines and the regular PPIO meeting.

At the rate the LAMP 2 stakeholders are working, there is no doubt that the targets and objectives of the project will be achieved, Engr. Castanares said. (PIA 8) [top]
