Scholarships for OFW dependents now available

Balanga, Bataan (10 September) -- If you're a dependent of an overseas Filipino worker, a scholarship program dubbed Education for Development awaits you!

Jennifer O. Gonzales, acting executive director of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO), said the scholarship is extended to immediate descendants of OFWs who intend to pursue courses leading to baccalaureate degrees.

To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following general criteria:

  • Be a Flipino citizen and with no pending application for citizenship in any country and does not have dual citizenship;
  • Be in good health and of good moral character;
  • Have not earned units in any post secondary/undergraduate course;
  • Be a high school graduate; and
  • Not a recipient of any scholarship award.

    According to Gonzales, awardees shall be selected on the basis of their performance in the National Scholarship Examination administered by the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).

    Awardees will be given P30,000 per semester or term to cover tuition and other school fees, book and clothing allowances.

    Applicants are required to submit the following documents: accomplished application form (Form 1); two copies of 1"x1" ID pictures; health certificate attesting to the physical fitness of applicant (Form 2); proof of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA)membership; official receipt of OWW contributions; OFW e-card/OFW information sheet; copy of birth certificate duly authenticated by the Local Civil Registrar or the National Statistics Office (NSO); Form 137 or transcript of record should be accompanies by the principal's certification on scholastic standing of applicant/ certification that the applicant is currently enrolled and statement of applicant that he/she has not earned units in any post secondary /undergraduate course (Form 3).

    Applications should be filed at the OWWA Regional Office in Central Luzon located at the 3rd floor of David building, McArthur Highway, Dolores, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.
