Labason employees launch tree-for-life program

Labason, Zamboanga del Norte (September 10) – The municipal government employees here together with the Dansalan Mangrove Multi-Purpose Cooperative and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) based in Liloy town of this province have launched on Friday a tree planting activity in support of the tree for life program of the national government.
Mayor Wilfredo Balais and the members of Sangguniang Bayan led the tree planting activity, which was joined by all regular and casual government employees at barangay Dansalan of this town.
A staff from DENR also disclosed that the tree planting activity was part of the green belting program pursued by the national government.
It can be recalled that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered for a massive reforestation all over the country by planting 20 million trees.
Mayor Balais, on the other hand, expressed optimism that a tree for life program can help protect the environment. "This is a timely program to stem massive forest denudation.
The municipal government of Labason has also entered into a memorandum of agreement with the DENR represented by Regional Executive Director Ernesto D. Adobo Jr., barangay Dansalan through Chairman Jesus Aripal and the Dansalan Mangrove Multi-Purpose Cooperative with the end in view of the "tree for life" program of President Arroyo.
