PNP 12 nabs bombing suspect in Gensan

General Santos City (10 September) -- Elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Region 12 apprehended on Saturday a suspected bomber allegedly responsible for several of the bombing incidences in Mindanao particularly in the cities of Cotabato and General Santos.

According to PSSUPT Casimero Medes, Chief, Public Information Officer of the PNP 12, efficient intelligence gathering and monitoring by elements of Regional Intelligence Division (RID) 12, Regional Intelligence Office (RIO) 12, Bomb Data Center, Directorate for Intelligence and Police Station No. 01 of GSCPO paid off when they arrested at the Overland Terminal in Bulaong here one Mike Gante y Pasague who was caught in the act of possessing a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Medes said the IED was allegedly placed inside a colored blue bag made up of one round live 81MM mortar ammunition with several concrete nails, one round live rifle grenade and one unit Nokia 3315 cellular phone when the suspect was arrested by elements of the PNP 12 led by Police Senior Inspector Maximo Sebastian Jr.

Based on the initial investigation by the PNP, the apprehended suspect along with his cohort identified only as alias BASIT, who was able to elude arrest, were about to deliver the said IED from Cotabato City to General Santos City in a plan to assemble it in their safe house located in Purok Mangga, here in the City and intend to plant it in KCC Mall of GENSAN.

Mike Gante is presently under custody of Regional Intelligence Division (RID) 12 facing appropriate charges against him.

Meanwhile, PNP Regional Director PCSUPT FELIZARDO M SERAPIO, JR lauded his men for the arrest of the suspect saying the series of successful operations against crime syndicates should serve as warning to all criminals that the PNP will not allow lawless elements to make a mockery of the law.

He said the PRO 12, fired by a new and more determined resolve to fight crime and maintain order, is sure to deliver the big blow to those who think they can get away with their nefarious activities. (PHG_PIA-SarGen/PRO 12) [top]
