LGUS enjoined to celebrate Family Week

by PS Mabaquiao

San Jose, Antique (11 September) -- Presidential Proclamation No. 60 dated September 18, 1992 declares every fourth week of September as Family Week.

Secretary Ronaldo Puno of the Department of Interior and Local Government issued Memorandum Circular No. 2007-85 urging Chief Executives in provinces, cities and municipalities including Regional Directors of the department to undertake activities to drum up the celebration.

This year's theme is "Makulay ang Buhay ng Pamilyang Matibay" aimed at strengthening family unity and relationship through the promotion of Filipino family values.

Provincial Director Rosario F. Maza urged local officials to organize activities in their localities like organizing Family Week parade and program, hanging of streamers, holding of symposia, among others to highlight this years celebration.

Meanwhile, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo during her visit to Sydney Australia underscored that poverty alleviation is the number one most important part of our agenda in the Philippines and our vision is to lift the Philippines into modernized country status in 20 years.

"We are working towards the day when the ordinary Filipino no longer needs to go abroad for a job, that overseas work is just another career option and not the only choice a hardworking Filipino has to earn a living", the President said.

PGMA further said that the ambitious economic reforms will help the offshore cycle. It will increasingly be keeping our best and brightest right in the Philippines, closer to families and friends helping to build our communities and providing the next generation of leadership. (PIA) [top]
