Cops bust gunrunning syndicate in Ilocos Sur

Camp President Quirino, Bantay, Ilocos Sur (September 11) -- Joint police operatives arrested a big time gun runner, who engaged in the selling of unlicensed locally made firearms in Ilocos region, in a raid in Barangay Paing, Bantay, Ilocos Sur.

The arresting lawmen also seized from the possession of the suspect a homemade high-powered firearm, several rounds of ammunition and gun paraphernalia for different calibers without licenses and permits.

Senior Superintendent Marvin V. Bolabola, Regional Chief of the Ilocos Region's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), identified the suspected gun runner as Ronald Peralta Pagay, a resident of same place.

He said the massive campaign against illegal possession of firearms was in line with the program of the administration to reduce crimes to attain peaceful community.

The suspect was arrested for violation of Presidential Decree 1866 as amended by Republic Act 8294 for illegal possession of Firearms and ammunitions by virtue of a search warrant issued by Judge Francisco A. Ante, Jr of the Municipal Trial Court Circuit in Vigan City.

Confiscated from the house premises of the suspect were One (1) 12 gauge Homemade Shotgun without serial number; One (1) piece short magazine for M16 Armalite Rifle; (1) live ammo for calibre 5.56; and Four (4) rounds live ammunition for 12gauge shotgun.

"My CIDG Team based in Ilocos Sur under Chief Inspector Marquez, Provincial Officer, whom I directed to track down and arrest those involved in the proliferation of unlicensed firearms in his area of jurisdiction, was able to zero in on the gun-running activities of the suspect that resulted to the issuance of a search in his house which was implemented in an orderly manner as witnessed by concerned Barangay officials in the area," Bolabola said.

The policemen also learned from their assets that the suspect was a longtime seller of guns especially homemade "Paltik with the following prices such as for Caliber.38 Paltik revolver - Three Thousand Pesos (P3,000.00) each; Nine Thousand Pesos (9,000.00) for 12gauge shotguns, Ten thousand pesos (P10,000.00) for caliber 9mm pistol, Twelve Thousand (P12,000.00) for Caliber.45 pistols and Twenty Thousand (P20,000.00) for M16 rifles.
