Tacloban City (12 September) -- Studies show that the major causes of mortality in our area is due to the so called lifestyle related disease. This was learned from the Department of Health - Eastern Visayas thru its Regional Director Dr. Teogenes F. Baluma.
Dr. Baluma bared that some of these so-called lifestyle related diseases are diabetes mellitus, cancer, disease of the heart and blood vessels, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Due to this development, DOH-EV saw the need to promote the Healthy Lifestyle Program through the conduct of trainings region-wide with their health workers as participants.
Through the Healthy Lifestyle Program, DOH shared that the health workers will be trained in the prevention and control of these diseases. Further, the program aims to develop the health workers' insight and self-awareness on their role in the prevention and control of non-communicable disease.
Another objective is to develop skills in promoting healthy lifestyle and likewise, risk modification in nutrition, exercise, smoking, healthy screening and check-up. The program also intends to develop the communication skills of the health workers, and motivating a healthy health worker and client relationship, and lastly, to mobilize communities in implementing healthy lifestyle programs.
To make this program fruitful, DOH-EV encourages each and everyone to be concerned and give their share in the prevention and control of these diseases by practicing and at the same time promoting healthy lifestyle.
To start with, one must observe cleanliness in their surroundings, observe healthy diet, regular exercise, stop smoking and avoid alcoholic drinks. (PIA-8) [top]
