NFA assures suficient rice for Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan (12 September) -- The National Food Authority office in western Pangasinan has assured sufficient stocks of rice to meet the needs of Pangasinan till the next harvest season.

Edilberto Libatique, manager of the NFA branch here, said the current total rice inventory of the province is 821,390 bags, good to last for 78 days.

The number, he said, includes rice stocks of households and commercial rice.

Aside from the total rice inventory, a total of 67,007 bags of imported rice was received by the NFA branch out of the total targeted volume of 70,000 bags or an accomplishment of 936 percent.

Libatique said the imported rice will augment the existing inventory of NFA rice stored in different warehouse of the province.

Total quantity of rice disposed through sales reached 93,781 bags representing an accomplishment of 104 percent, out of the total 90,000 bags targeted for the month.

Part of the NFA rice stocks is being distributed to the 96 Bigasan ni Gloria sa Palengke (BGPs) which are considered the most effective and efficient rice distribution outlets and sold to end-consumers at P18 per kilogram.

Libatique appealed to operators of BGPs to follow proper rules and regulations in selling government rice and to always think of their social obligation to the consuming public, particularly the poorest of the poor. (PIA-Pangasinan) [top]
