Tagalog News: DA inaprobahan ang pag-import ng bigas sa ibang bansa

Manila (12 September) -- Upang magkaroon ng sapat na suplay ng bigas ang bansa, inaprobahan ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang pag-import ng karagdagang 260,000 metric tons (MTs) ng bigas sa bansang Thailand at Vietnam.

Ayon kay National Food Authority (NFA) Deputy Administrator Ludovico Jarina, sa pamamagitan ng rice importation at pagsisimula ng harvest season mananatili hanggang 50 days ang NFA rice inventory bago matapos ang taong 2007.

Kabilang sa rice self-sufficiency program sa taong 2010, ang Pamahalaan ay nagpapatuloy sa pagsasagawa ng rehabilitasyon sa mga irrigation projects at mga farm-to-market roads ang kung saan itinataguyod din nito ang paggamit ng hybrid rice varieties at iba pang mga modernong kagamitan tulad ng mechanical dryers.

Dagdag pa ni Jarina, malaking tulong ito sa mga magsasaka upang mapataas ang kanilang ani, mapababa ang post-harvest losses na magiging daan upang magkaroon ng sapat na suplay ng bigas ang Pilipinas at matigil na ang pag-import ng mga bigas sa ibang bansa. (Abb/PAI 12) [top]
