Wage increase for Cagayan Valley to be issued November 2007
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (September 13) -- A series of public consultations with the private workers and management sectors are will start this month to fast track the implementation of wage increase in Cagayan Valley, officials of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.
Undersecretary Romeo Lagman in a visit here last week said the P100 per day wage increase filed by the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) in Metro Manila wherein the subsequent wage order supported the integration of the the P50 Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) to the P300 basic pay and additional P12 basic pay.
"The effective minimum wage in NCR now is P362 per day and if you include all the wage - related benefits, it will sum up to P488 a day," Lagman explained.
He also said that region 3 passed P9 COLA and integrated P38.50 to the basic pay while region 4-A has a basic increase of P6 COLA and P13 basic pay and others passed P9 COLA.
He said that out of the 16 regional wage boards in the country, only four of them have passed wage increase orders of this writing.
Grace Ursua, DOLE regional director for Cagayan Valley also said public hearings will start this month to discuss the proposed wage increase.
"We will be starting a series of public hearings this month in Santiago City to discuss their petition for wage increase. So far, we have not received any petition yet," Ursua said. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
