Capiz barangay tanods receive award

Roxas City (13 September) -- The team of barangay tanods from Barangay Manibad, Mambusao, Capiz received an award for the group category of the search for Outstanding Barangay Tanods in Western Visayas this year.

The awarding was led by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to give recognition to performing barangay tanods in the region in line with the National Crime Prevention Week celebration.

The team of defending champion from Barangay Aganan, Pavia topped the group category followed by Brgy. Manibad and Brgy. Concordia in Sibunag, Guimaras.

For the individual category, defending champion Carlito Manzan of Barangay Oracon, Nueva Valencia Guimaras emerged as this year's winner from the six entries regionwide.

The recognition of outstanding tanods supports the government's peace initiative efforts to attract more investors to the country. Part of the government's peace efforts are livelihood and amnesty programs for rebel returnees.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo already issued Proclamation No. 1377 granting amnesty to members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and other communist rebel groups in the country. (PIA/A. Lumaque) [top]
