Himamaylan City steps us drive vs dengue

Negros Occidental (13 September) -- Himamaylan City, this province is intensifying its information campaign against the deadly dengue-carrying mosquito.

The City Health Office of Himamaylan headed by Dr. Medardo Estanda conducted recently a series of information dissemination through lectures conducted on dengue awareness to its 39 schools in 19 barangays in the city.

The program is in line with City Mayor Carminia Bascon's thrust to save the Himamaylanons from the deadly dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Sanitary inspectors of the city who were resource persons of the lectures informed the students on the signs and symptoms of dengue, its prevention and control.

At present, no alarming cases were monitored in Himamaylan, however, in the whole of western visayas, dengue cases are up by 224 percent compared to last year.

Dengue Coordinator for Region 6 Dr. Fabian Mabasa said that in western visayas, 55 dengue related deaths were recorded this year compared to 13 last year. Negros ranks fourth in the region in the number of dengue cases. (PIA/EAD) [top]
