Cebu, Philippines (13 September) -- The Office of the Governor received instructions yesterday that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had instructed DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno to re-appoint Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia as chair of the Regional Peace & Order Council in Central Visayas.
According to the governor's chief of staff, Elizabeth Francia, she received a call from the DILG-7 director Pete Noval and NAPOLCOM-7 director Bernardo Calibo informing the latter of PGMA's instructions.
Francia said that both DILG and NAPOLCOM directors told the office of the governor that the RPOC meeting is cancelled because PGMA already instructed DILG secretary Puno to re-appoint Garcia. The instruction was relayed to the governor's office yesterday that prompted the cancellation of today's meeting of the RPOC-7.
This caught the governor by surprise because today's RPOC-7 meeting was supposed to elect or choose the new RPOC chair which, the governor said she was planning to give way to other officials from other agencies. Garcia also chairs the Regional Development Council in the region.
In a media interview, it was learned that the National peace & Order Council will convene on September 20 in Manila to announce the awards of outstanding RPOCs and RPOC-CV is said to be one of the awardees. (PIA-Cebu) [top]
