Labason town to conduct skills training for out-of-school youths

By Abundio Puro

Labason, Zamboanga del Norte (13 September) -- This municipality is going to hold a skills training on candle and floor wax making for out-of-school youths tomorrow.

This was learned from Mr. Ruben Castro, manpower development officer of this town in an interview yesterday with this writer at the municipal hall lobby.

Castro said the training, which will be participated in by around 32 out-of-school youths, shall be conducted with the help of the Technology and Livelihood Development Center (TLDC) of the provincial government headed by Governor Rolando E. Yebes.

Castro also stressed that the training aims to equip the participants with knowledge and skills on certain livelihood projects for them "to fully realize their worth and dignity so that they become self-reliant, economically productive and socially responsible citizens.

"The youth must be oriented on some income generating projects and be given the necessary techniques and skills to produce quality products," Castro added.

Another training on bottled sardines making, Castro disclosed, is upcoming as soon as he will finish the project proposal before the end of this month.

The candle and floor wax making training is a joint project between Mayor Wilfredo S. Balais and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Chairman Jessel Quimbo, aimed at giving the out-of-school youths the needed skills so they can start earning for themselves and thus minimizing unemployment problem in the municipality

Funding for the training was sourced from the 10 percent SK appropriation. (MIO/PIA-ZN) [top]
