PNP lauds Erap supporters for peaceful acceptance of verdict

Manila (13 September) -- Philippine National Police (PNP) officials have lauded supporters of former President Joseph Estrada for calmly accepting the guilty verdict of the plunder case against the erstwhile Chief Executive.

PNP Deputy Director-General Avelino Razon Jr., said the peaceful assembly and acceptance of the verdict showed that Estrada's supporters are matured and law abiding citizens contrary to the specters of outrage and revolt raised by their leaders.

"We would like to thank the supporters of former President Estrada for keeping the peace and accepting the rule of law. By their political maturity, they have shown that over and above their interests, we are still one race with one country, " Razon said.

He assured all sectors that the PNP will maintain maximum tolerance in all future mass actions.

"Your PNP will be the protector of everybody. We will welcome all the help and support in keeping all mass actions peaceful and safe, " Razon said.

Razon assured Estrada supporters or any other group that their human rights will be respected to the fullest by the police during mass actions.

"We will implement the law whenever we have to. But I assure everyone that as long as they follow the law, they won't have any problems with the police in their mass actions," Razon added. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
