Respect Sandiganbayan verdict on Erap - Gov. Moreno

Cagayan de Oro City (13 September) -- "NOW that the Sandiganbayan has rendered its decision finding the former President guilty, I hope that our country will be able to deal with this situation appropriately with due regard to the independence of the judiciary and the need for our judicial system to triumph."

This was the statement issued by Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno through his Provincial Press Office yesterday, a few hours after the court's decision was announced.

"I also hope that our country will be able to move on and learn the lessons from this sad episode of our history. This is not a victory of anyone, but the victory of the judicial system," he pointed out.

Gov. Moreno stressed, "There are important principles in this experience that I hope would be strengthened: independence of the judiciary, rule of law, accountability of public officials, and equal protection of the law."

"I hope that our country will survive and emerge stronger from this painful episode and bring the nation to greater heights," he concluded. (PIA-MisOrOccCam) [top]
