Newly-elected officials in Camiguin undergo governance orientation

by Lia M. Cabiguin

Cagayan de Oro City (13 September) -- NEWLY elected officials of Camiguin underwent a series of orientation conducted by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) provincial office to equip and familiarize them with the necessary knowledge on local governance.

Under the Newly Elected Officials (NEO) Orientation Program conducted in coordination with the local government units and various leagues of the province, the participants were oriented on: Phase 1-"Knowing My LGU (local government unit) and the National Vision," Phase 2-"Knowing My Job and Local Officials," and Phase 3-"Executive-Legislative Agenda Formulation."

Prior to the orientation proper, DILG-Camiguin Provincial Director Nilo P. Castanares issued a Memorandum dated July 05, 2007 for the localization of the NEO Program in the province with the State of Local Governance Report Utilization Conference as the kick-off activity.

Phase 1, which includes the "Super Region Approach," "8 in '08," "Governor's Policy Statement," and "Local Governance Performance Management System," was successfully conducted in the five municipalities of the province, namely Mambajao, Catarman, Guinsiliban, Sagay, and Mahinog.

It was participated in by local officials and functionaries, as well as representatives from non-government organizations and people's organizations.

Phase 2 of the program, conducted last August 17 at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall, discussed the "Mayor's First 100 Days," "Task and Responsibilities," "DILG Role in Local Governance," and various programs implemented by the different national government agencies.

The local chief executives brought along their focal persons and municipal local government operations officers to help them carry out their official and ceremonial functions.

The last phase, covering the five municipal governments, including the provincial government, was completed by end of the August. (DILG-Camiguin/PIA-MisOrOccCam i-Net) [top]
