Capiz students' turnout for NCAE high

by Jemin B. Guillermo

Roxas City (14 September) -- More than 10,000 high schools students in Capiz took this year's National College Assessment Examination (NCAE).

Mary Capangyarihan, Filipino Division Supervisor and Testing Coordinator of Department of Education -Capiz Division, said some 10,369 high school students in the province took the NCAE last August 28 this year.

Capangyarihan revealed that said students represent 98 percent of all the graduating high school students from both the public and private schools in the province.

She said that prior to the scheduled examination 10,588 high school students were able to register for the 2007 NCAE.

Education Secretary Jesli Lapus earlier said that the NCAE will be given to high school students in public and private schools but stressed that only private secondary schools with permit from the Department of Education (DepEd) shall be included in the administration of the test.

Lapus explained that the test seeks to enable students and parents to better assess career options based on the student's skills and inclinations towards various fields of interest.

He added that said test will also determine not only the students' academic aptitude but also their technical and vocational capabilities as well as entrepreneurial skills.

In January this year, Capangyarihan said that 10,028 high school students in the province were registered to take the NCAE, however only 9,838 students or 98.11 percent were able to take the said examination. (PIA) [top]
