ULAP, Negroc Occidental officials call for calm over Erap guilty verdict
Bacolod City (14 September) -- The Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) appealed for calm and sobriety in view of the guilty verdict for plunder handed down by the Sandiganbayan to former President Joseph Estrada.
"It is imperative for our people to let the rule of law prevail at this time because the decision of the anti-graft court is a milestone that underlines the constitutional precept that no man is above the law," ULAP said in a press release.
The group's appeal for social order is anchored on preserving the economic gains the country has already achieved and for its further growth.
"We are calling for the sectors to abide by this decision of the Sandiganbayan and pray for national reconciliation."
Negros Occ. Vice- Governor and presently acting as Governor Isidro Zayco earlier issued similar messages saying " We will respect the decision of the court. It shows that no one is above the law."
On the other hand, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia said the litigation is not yet over and believes many things can still happen citing that Estrada's lawyers can still appeal the decision. (PIA-LOL) [top]
