PIA Press Release

80% from Tandag gov't sector favor Erap verdict on plunder case

by Nida Grace B. Tranquilan

TANDAG CITY (September 14) -- After the Sandiganbayan found former President Joseph Ejercito Estrada guilty for the crime of plunder beyond reasonable doubt, 80 percent of the ten respondents from the provincial government of Surigao del Sur favors the verdict.

In a random survey conducted yesterday, September 13, Ms. Libra Yu said, the court made the right decision. The result will serve as a warning to government officials and that justice is still working not only for the poor but also to the most influential people in our country. "It is hard to believe that former President Erap was unfortunately convicted. But how about the others?" she asked.

Six members from the provincial government also agreed to the decision of the Sandiganbayan, that the government is serious in curbing corruption, although it is hard to stop but at least minimize.

Another two personnel in the provincial government here are in favor of the verdict saying it is a victory of democracy. "Although we also felt said sad for what happen to the former president, but it's time for him to reminisce what he has done", they said.

Mr. Boy Quico, said the court made the right decision for the sake of the people and the whole country. "For former president Erap, this is a big lesson to him and to other public officials", he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ace Orcullo, community development information officer of San Agustin here, said former President Erap was detained for six years, this is just enough for him to suffer, considering his present health condition.

Orcullo also hopes that the government will do its best to have the right decision where the former President belongs, although, "No one is above the law". (PIA-Surigao del Sur) [top]
