Cebu City (14 September) -- To further promote the strengthening of the Filipino Family, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has lined up activities for the Family Week celebration next week.
Director Evelyn B. Macapobre of the DSWD here said the well being of the Filipino Family has been the focus of the government's efforts for years; hence it made efforts to foster its unity, solidarity and stability.
This leads to the issuance of Presidential Proclamation No. 60 which declares every last week of September as Family Week. This year's celebration, Macapobre informed, carries the theme "Makulay ang Buhay ng Pamilyang Pilipino".
The week-long celebration, Macapobre said, will be highlighted with radio and TV guestings to raise the level of the public's awareness on various issues affecting the Filipino Family.
Local family welfare groups here recently aired that the rising number of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Central Visayas posed a problem to the stability of the Filipino Family.
They cited this phenomenon as a big factor which contributed to the breaking up of many families in the region.
They are optimistic though that the programs that some local governments have initiated, like the family fun day and the search for a model family, might offset this phenomenon and may eventually lead to the strengthening of the families. (PIA 7) [top]
