Villar says Erap verdict generally respected
BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya (September 14) -- The verdict handed down by the Sandigan Bayan against former President Joseph Estrada who was found guilty of plunder has been generally respected by Filipinos in the country, according to senate president Manny Villar.
"I do not think this is enough reason to launch another form of disorder in our country. It did not because our fellow Filipinos have shown their maturity," Villar said over DWRV radio station here.
He said that while investors were fearing another public outrage as the Sandigan Bayan read its decision, the stock market instead soared after they learned that the historic event was not generally marred with violent rallies and dispersals.
"Anyway, the case can still be appealed. It is not yet the end since plunder is a continuing case. Personally I do not believe he is guilty," said Villar who is a friend of Estrada.
The senator also praised the Filipinos temperance for not resorting to violence though it does not mean that they also favor the verdict.
He said they will continue their work in the senate such as deliberating on pending and important bills and attending on the various investigations of anomalous transactions. (PIA NVizcaya) [top]
