NFA assures stable rice supply in Bicol

Legazpi City (14 September) -- The National Food Authority (NFA) continues to implement strict monitoring of the price situation in the market with the reported increase in the price of commercial rice.
NFA Bicol asst. regional director Jose Guevarra said this is to ensure that the price of rice is stable throughout the country with the assurance of enough supply of NFA rice sold at P18 per kilo.
Guevarra said as far as the Bicol region is concern the Nfa has an inventory of some 300,000 bags of rice which is good for 21 days.
He bared that the said rice inventory is further beefed-up by additional shipment of imported rice to fill-up the allotted 980,000 bags of imported rice for the Bicol region for 2007.
Guevarra said the NFA in Bicol continues to monitor the rice situation in the market to ensure that NFA rice is not mixed with commercial rice for higher profits by unscrupulous rice traders.
